I’m pretty sure I’m one of the last to talk about the Colourpop craze, but last year, I decided to see what all the excitement was about and buy a bunch of the Ultra Matte Lip, Ultra Satin Lip, and Lippie Stix. (To most, this might not seem like a lot, it’s the biggest makeup haul I’ve ever done.) So for this post, I thought I’d share with you all my thoughts on some of the Ultra Matte Lip and Ultra Satin Lip products that I bought, and then, in a second post, I’ll show you all the Lippie Stix products that I bought.
Currently, there are over 51 Ultra Matte Lip shades and over 40 Ultra Satin Lip shades to choose from. I think this has to be the biggest liquid lipstick ranges I’ve ever seen. So in order to not overwhelm myself, I decided to purchase 7 Ultra Matte Lip and 3 Ultra Satin Lip lipsticks, retailing at $6.50 USD for 0.11 oz., which is just a fraction of the cost of their high-end counterparts.
Also, for the price, I have to say the packaging was really high-end, from the box it arrived into the little note inside as well the amazing packaging the liquid lipsticks were in. Nothing about it suggested cheap. I haven’t owned a lot of lipsticks in my time, but I would defiantly say as far as packaging, it’s on par with major department store brands.
This is my first time trying liquid lipsticks, and I have to say it was quite an experience. If you want a super long-wearing colour, I would defiantly say Colourpop is for you, but at the same time, if you’re not the best at applying lipstick, it’s probably not the best one to buy, as you only get the one chance to apply it.
If you attempt to layer the product, it just ends up looking cakey. But after a few attempts, you get the hang of it, and it becomes a lot easier to apply.
At first, I thought applying the lipstick was going to be the hard part, but removing it was even harder. Normally, I just get a makeup wipe or some micellar water and wipe my lipstick off, but I must have spent at least 5-10 minutes scrubbing my lips and arms, which I had swatched the product on, between tests. It got to the point where I decided to just swatch on card. I’ll stock up on some strong lip makeup remover for when I wear this lipstick in the future.
So, if you’re new to trying liquid lipsticks, I would defiantly recommend trying Colourpop, as they have a great range. I only tried the matte and satin ranges, but they also make an Ultra Glossy Lip, Ultra Metallic Lip, and Ultra Blotting Lip, which is one of their newer arrivals. Another great thing is that because they’re only $6, you can afford to buy more than one, and if you don’t like them, you haven’t wasted too much money.
Have a look below at the lipstick swatches and let me know which is your favourite shade! My favourite shades and application tips are all listed below, too!
If you find the Colourpop liquid lipsticks to be a bit on the dry side, you can always start by applying the Colourpop Lippie Stix primer, or if you don’t have that, a thin layer of lip balm would work the same. Also, try and stick to the one layer. If you start to apply more, the lipstick can start to have a cakey affect. Also, it is difficult when purchasing based on a bunch of pictures on the internet, so be prepared for some of your liquid lipstick to look similar in shade.
MY FAVOURITE SHADES
For an everyday look, my favourite shades would have to Bianca and Trap. Then, for something a bit more out there, I’d probably pick the shades Dopey or Milk Bottle. Then, if I really wanted to go extreme I’d pick Wink.
MY NOT SO FAVOURITE SHADES
My not so favourite shades would have to be Perry, Viper, Mimmy, Bijou, and Wild Nothing. They’re really nice colours, but I just feel like they’re pretty similar in shade and not something I’d be brave enough to wear. But if darker shades are more your thing, then I’d definitely recommend checking out these shades.
With a wide range of shades to choose from, which is your favourite shade? Are you tempted to add one to your lipstick collection?
